I thought a high-rise was alway planned for this corner. I would love for this to get built here. It's the urban core, and it's only 9 stories. It's not like it's the East Quarter's 300 Pearl project.

Yeah, DTD does have the basic services, but just not enough of them: for flowers, there's Farmers Market, Designs East Florist... not sure if Berkley's or CVS carries the cheaper ones; Books - you could go to Taschen at the Joule. I've bought several last minute gifts there. Definitely need more tho...

A group of friends and I just tried out the empanada place across the street from this development site, and I was surprised at how busy it was. This little area was pretty active with museum & aquarium visitors. Excited to have this project enhance the area even more.

I feel like Mockingbird Station needs some reconfiguring. It feels like a strip mall rn, and there are several empty storefronts. I really wish they hadn't put all that parking in the middle, and instead made it more like West Village.

When I read the blog title I definitely thought it was going to be a lot worse. This just sound like normal DART during off peak hours. Still, I wish DART would just come up with a solution for fare enforcement, cleaner trains, and a better transit experience.

A couple of updates off Elm by the majestic: the former Petro Bistro Bar will become Toussaint, and Kitchen & Cocktails added some patio space. I just wish the surface lots nearby would turn into something now. Also, Parterre (former Ascension), had a soft opening over the weekend.

@rono3849 I wish I could've experienced that. I keep watching the old wfaa footage on YouTube (SMU Jones Film channel). The funny thing is that I still see a lot of the same surface lots even then in the early 70s.

I checked out the Google maps timeline, and it looks like they kept the brick facade intact, and just placed the stucco on wood framing over the brick. At least nothing got torn down. I'm really interested to see how this affects this generally quiet part of downtown on the weekends.

My understanding of the homelessness issue is that you need both shelter and services (for the mentally ill and substance issues, et al) to start resolving it. I know DDI is already doing one-on-one help with their task force in downtown connecting the homeless with family or housing. Besides that, ...

If I'm reading correctly, it'll replace the WFAA Plaza. I've always hated that "park" b/c it looked so half baked. So in that sense, I'll take it as well. At least this one has a retail element, unlike the First Baptist monster garages.

There are still plenty of empty lots that could fill in and make up for the new developments that don't have any retail or neighborhood services. So, I'm still hopeful. Totally agree on all of the above suggestions. At the very least, wide sidewalks and separated bike lane from DT to LG.
