Thanks for the update. I was out running in the evening this past week and I saw very few homeless out. They put up a barricade (with some design features on it) surrounding the old Iron Cactus patio and that has really helped visually clean up Pegasus Plaza. Main Street Garden, which is usually a h...
@Tnexster - yes, if I remember correctly. Exploring the west side of downtown: Chimalma Taco Bar (I think this used to be a Latin Deli); not sure how much longer the renovations at Founder's Plaza will be, but it's definitely taking shape. Lastly, some developments I'd never heard of Rokwood Lounge,...
I'm not sure when this was put up, but I'm pretty sure it's fairly recent: 609 Harwood I also noticed the space where Cafe Izmir is/was (Alto 211) is getting renovated.
There are still plenty of empty lots that could fill in and make up for the new developments that don't have any retail or neighborhood services. So, I'm still hopeful. Totally agree on all of the above suggestions. At the very least, wide sidewalks and separated bike lane from DT to LG.
I walked around last night around 6pm, and it was definitely quiet. Still, not as dead as in the mid 2000s. I wish Iron Cactus hadn't closed. That just left a giant hole on Main. Agree with all the points above. I will say, though, it was unbelievably clean, and far fewer homeless than a couple mont...
I did a walk through yesterday evening as well, and I felt there was a steady amount of pedestrian activity all over downtown. I focused around EMC. I left feeling very optimistic bc there was a steady flow of pedestrians coming and going to/from AT&T DD, downtown overall was pretty clean (inclu...
Progress pics of a few projects on Lowest Greenville this week. Drove by today, and the blue building is going through a reno. Sign says "Son of a Butcher." The old Yucatan space is becoming Manpuku Grille.
I went last night at around 8 pm, and I was preparing myself to run into protestors, but I didn't see anything. It was actually very calm. Homelessness seemed to be very under control compared to other nights, and it was also pretty clean. I'm assuming this is DDI doing a good job with security and ...
The section closest to The Majestic finally has the windows uncovered. There's still the whole dining room facing Harwood that is still being worked on.
I just read that article, and I think that was the state of downtown several weeks ago. I go to downtown to run and exercise at least once a week in the evenings, and there's a decent amount of activity for being in a pandemic. Pacific Park is always active with a fair number of people, Discovery Di...
Yeah, it's pretty sad. I think Dude Sweet Chocolate just has temporary hours. Queso Beso is temporarily closed too. La Tarte Tropezienne seems to be doing really well, Chop House Burger and Freshii are still open.
I've been going to downtown for runs on weekday evenings, and to hangout at certain times day/night on the weekends. I personally haven't seen or heard of protests in weeks. Did I miss something?
La Tarte Tropezienne opened this weekend. I stopped by twice Saturday and Sunday, and both times it was pretty busy. This shot was taken close to 9pm on a Sunday night.
This area has always struggled. I was downtown last night, and even on a Sunday night I was surprised at how many people were just walking around, walking dogs, or on the scooters, all along EMC. The Arts District really doesn't have anything going on right now, so yes, it's pretty desolate.
Even though Iron Cactus wasn't the best, it's pretty disappointing to see this one go. Right now, only Chop House Burger is holding down the corner of Main & Akard. Went by today, and Pegasus Plaza Park is pretty much a homeless camp. I really do feel for the homeless though - it's not a bad pla...
This is definitely a focal point for downtown. I was downtown on Saturday night, and was pretty much expecting a ghost town because of the pandemic, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent crowd out and about despite several restaurants still shut down. ATT Discovery District is definitely a ...
^ I think so. If I'm remembering correctly, I think they were gutting that space. The dry cleaners in the photo above, is on the Jackson Street side of the DPL building.
Yes, awful name. The "We're Open" sign is for Which Which next door. They're still working on the interior. I was surprised this place was still moving forward.
Jaxon was doing pretty well this weekend. Even with a lot of things shut down, several people were making use of the spread out seating. I really hope it spills over onto Browder Street. I hadn't noticed, but there's a dry cleaners taking a section of the DPL building.
The finish out of this project is really good. It will definitely be a destination for downtown once everything is up and running. I really like how they made the dead space along Commerce into a large patio.
I just went by last night, and all the restaurants were still open for take-out: Shiva's, iFratteli, Tiff's Treats, and a new empanada place I didn't even know had open-end there. The only one closed, besides the CVS was a hair salon.
There has to be a happy medium between the ultra high-end retail and the chain retail/restaurant found at Sundance. I appreciate downtown FW's success, but every time I visit, it feels like I'm at a bigger Firewheel.
It's good to see the front of the Knights of Pythias building finally redone. Went running through here a couple days ago. The new sidewalks and trees would make it a pretty pleasant walk all the way to the East Quarter.
