Re: DALLAS to HOUSTON High Speed Rail

Not many people talking about this but I hope something good comes out of Hurricane Harvey and Texas politicians stop getting on the way of turning this into reality. Would have really helped relocate lots of people in the Houston area to N Texas quickly. When a hurricane is heading to the Texas coa...

Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)

I love it. I believe the whole Fountain Place complex overall will easily turn into one of the most desirable places to work in Dallas once it's fully built-out. Hopefully another 80's towers will want to mimick what Fountain Place is currently doing. It would be nice to hear that BOA for example ha...

Very nice view. Can you imagine if Little Mexico was a park from that first pic? It would be our small version of Central Park surrounded with towers of unobstructed parkland.

Re: Downtown Dallas: Hillwood Urban's ~50 storey tower on former BoA motorcourt

This has been fun and it's a cool-looking, intriguing design. But I suspect we'll be filing this Norman Foster building away with the Spires and Victory Tower/Mandarin Oriental Hotel, etc. We'll just have to see. https://sway.com/L6WeXwbxQKgsvP9m Recent U/C starts are missing like the Epic but grea...

Re: Downtown Dallas: Hillwood Urban's ~50 storey tower on former BoA motorcourt

This supertall needs to be mixed use. A mixed use makes more sense than one use, just as leverage in case of market slowdowns. Any supertall and any skyscraper built in this city should have a hard focus on pedestrian friendly ground levels that both connects to the public and gives homage to the c...

Re: Downtown Dallas: Hillwood Urban's ~50 storey tower on former BoA motorcourt

To me, a supertall would make more sense in the CBD if the majority of empty lots were already taken, there was still a lot of demand, and not much more room to build. Again, that's just me personally. I'm not as interested in making our skyline taller, I'm more interested in filling our streets wi...

Re: Downtown Dallas: Hillwood Urban's ~50 storey tower on former BoA motorcourt

Technically, the proposed building is "in the middle of things". It's close to Victory Park, across from Uptown, down the street from the Arts Distict and Klyde Warren Park. I can't think of a better location. And let's not forget the large millennial population in the surrounding area......

Re: Downtown Dallas: Hillwood Urban's ~50 storey tower on former BoA motorcourt

That would be a billion dollar bet on an area without the same perks as other supertalls west of the Mississippi. SF's new one is at a new $4.5 billion commuter hub, for instance. LA's is on their convention center corridor street, one block away from their three-level underground transit hub. The ...

Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)

Oh I know...that part of Downtown is such a dud. On the bright side though it is a mostly blank canvas, so the projects going in there have the potential to be truly transformative. This new AMLI tower sure seems like a good start! Just this along with the Fountain Place upgrades are already making...

Re: Rowlett: Crystal Lagoon

In my opinion, Texas waterfront is a woefully underutilized asset and lake access is even more segregated than North vs South Dallas when compared to oceanfront access in most states. So I think these lagoons, if they catch on and can be maintained, will be one of the biggest game changers Dallas w...

Re: Arlington: Mass Transit

^^All of this shows the hard sell it will be to get Arlington to join most of the rest of the Metroplex. Such a ridiculous hold-out -- if not because of the Stadiums and Six Flags, then because of UTA. Legislators really really need to allow county based transit funding mechanisms. City limit lines...

Really love the Urban Design. The Evacuation Platform shown on the Brazos Valley Station is also a good idea for hurricanes.

Re: Dallas Area Rapid Transit

It's a big win. It's a quantity vs quality type of scenario for downtown. It will certainly take longer to get the project finished, but the end result is another route without slicing off two neighborhoods once again. Not to mention that it can also run faster due to it not being at grade-level.
