Re: Knox District / Knox Park

The remodel of the former Abacus building continues. This has taken a couple years now. Seems like they were close a year ago and now they are making more changes to what will eventually be a new steakhouse (already forgot the name it’s been so long). The building has lost its Asian elements and lot...

I tried to go up on the Weirs balcony to take a pic, but they were closed. The hole is deep, maybe 4-5 stories (?). It’s hard to judge with just excavators down there. There are three cranes erected now. The single one at Knox and two at Armstrong (south end).

First crane going up just north of the SALON building (Cafe Madrid). One section installed, sections 2 and 3 sitting on trucks on Travis. I've always liked the idea of Irving merging into Dallas. ;) The topography in Irving is so different. When I worked over there, all the concrete roads were sinking and constantly under repair. I'm glad that Dallas is ahead of the curve converting unused office space to housing. If the demand for DT office space returns (even if a lesser demand) and we are sorely lacking in available, high-quality office space, it will only drive demand for new builds in DT proper. I drove thru there last week and thought the same. It was finally open but still only 3 lanes heading west to Ft Worth. It seems like all that money and time went only into charging Dallas residents for a (tolled) quick exit from the stadiums.
