Re: Dallas - Fort Worth high-speed rail project
You're making an assumption that sounds logical but is probably 180 degrees off base. The more likely scenario is that this would end up like DART rail, where the marginal costs exceed marginal revenues, so the more riders you get the bigger the financial black hole. Do you remember when DART threa...

Re: Dallas - Fort Worth high-speed rail project
I don't think Arlington will ever be able to justify a high speed rail or any other new rail alignment based strictly on the I-30 corridor. I think that Cowboys Stadium and Globe Life Field and Six Flags have always done fine where they are and the first step to serving them with transit would just ...

Re: Rowlett: Crystal Lagoon
Outing myself as a current Fort Worth resident, I'm glad we have Eagle Mountain Reservoir. It's TRWD, and long ago before anyone wanted to live out there a lot of park land was dedicated. It has a robust man made beach with a large >200 car parking lot and then at least half of the shoreline is pres...

Sure, compared to like West End station then maybe. But if you are waiting on the DART platforms its the usual weirdos who loiter on the trains. There's so few people around the station that riding TRE you kind of feel like you are some sort of hobo. At least that was my experience. Plus there's no ...

Re: Reunion (Tower, hotel, and??)
So there was originally supposed to be a tower attached to that parking garage between the two viaducts? I never knew that. 1980s Dallas real estate tycoons must have been doing coke or something because the visionary projects from that era are just incredible. JR Ewing stuff in real life. I'm so gl...

Lots of schadenfreude about this online, like on Reddit. It's unfortunate but it seems like a lot of people were unhappy to lose a lakefront park for a private development like this. Now there is approximately 0 public access points to Lake Ray Hubbard, since Garland closed Windsurf Bay park because...

All I'm going to say is, If the Mavs moved to Frisco or Mansfield or Forney somewhere like that so that they could anchor some gigantic self-contained casino monstrosity I would disown the team. The general trend seems to be that big cities have too many dispersed ground floor retail spaces mandated by zoning now, and its contributing to a lack of critical mass where you would actually want ground floor retail, like on the major streets. I think it's fine as is.

Sorry I don't have any information on that. Sometime in about 2 or 3 years if Google Earth ever creates a 3D view of that area, the path tool will allow you to measure on the 3D polygon to get generalized measurements. It seems like nearly all new water towers in North Texas seem to be of the "...

Google Maps shows a bunch of green grass on the SE corner of Corinth and Botham Jean, maybe its the blocks to the east-northeast of Botham Jean delineated by the DART tracks this refers to? I would hope they would stay in the CBD close to DART, a community college is going to be a consistent provider of foot traffic and people buying coffee and food, and having it close to rail will encourage ridership and reduce parking/congestion issues.

The small increases in ridership are a good sign. I noticed it always peaks up in December and January because that's travel season and the Grapevine holiday stuff on main street is running. If it can exceed the holiday season number then it might crack over 2,000 daily ridership. That's still low b...

I think you'd also have to consider how consumption patterns differ too. 10,000 hotel rooms, occupied by people who eat out almost every meal. That's more restaurant demand than a residential suburb. That said I wonder what the critical mass is for central Dallas to feel genuinely urban like Chicago...

Yes I wonder what the critical mass needs to be to have more day to day amenities and services. This is speculative, but fun to think about. However a Museum Way station would be appealing, depending o...

I don't agree with the premise because they took these statistics during the middle of the pandemic and cities are coming back.
Also cities just don't have the same concentration of poverty they used to. A lot of cities are richer in their core than before.

I always loved the way those buildings looked. Like the poster above, they are kind of 1970s but in a good way. Buildings with glass that's not blue or dark/silver are pretty rare.
